District Governor Tom Rogers
  • We are Tom’s 52nd club meeting since 7/1
  • Tom presented Brian the Rotary theme banner
  • Tom’s first exposure to Rotary was in 1979 as party of a group study exchange in England where he attended 37 meetings covering 22 clubs
  • In 1980, he joined the Canandaigua Rotary Club
  • In 2006-2007, he was elected as President
  • Tom shared the celebration of Foundation’s 100th Anniversary and the $200M contribution by the Gates Foundation
  • “Great endeavors come from great opportunities”
  • Goal for Foundation is for all 2,402 members in our district to contribute $26.50 just like the first gift in 1918 by John Jervis
  • Tom shared the tremendous success that the literacy project has experienced
  • Tom’s goal for membership this year to get a net gain of 1 member per club; 26 clubs had a net gain last year; Canandaigua is looking to add 10
  • Tom also discussed the evolution of Rotary with some of the procedural changes in response to the change work and membership environment
  • He encouraged all of us to sign up on My Rotary on rotary.org; currently we have 10 out of 23 members signed in there
  • Tom also discussed many of the upcoming initiatives such as Public Image and working on our social media presence; the development of the Grapevine newsletter has gone from 4 pages to 20 pages; many new seminars related to membership and foundation
  • Tom’s passion with Rotary comes from his love to spending time with people of with same values
