Board of Director’s Meeting Update
  • 501(c)3 filing has been put on hold for now; only 10% of clubs has it and it requires additional paperwork and cost to file
  • Donations that will be written: $2,000 for shelter box for Haiti and $1,500 to Camp Haccamo from Robynpalooza
 
Miscellaneous Items
  • Our outbound exchange student, Robin, from last year will be in town over the holidays and we will work on having her present to us the 1st or 2nd week of January
  • Village is doing a trick or treat trail throughout the village; Robyn suggests that we partner with Lions and Kiwanis to hold a Trunk or Treat and use the shelter box as a spook house; the village event is 10/29 12-3
  • Robyn suggested that we hold a Service Above Self luncheon where the community nominates a person who is doing great service work in the community and invite the town supervisor and village mayor (Robyn, Kathy, and Joe will be on the committee)
  • Kathy also shared the she and a team from the cancer center help prepare breakfast one Friday a month at the Open Door Mission; she suggested that we do the same; the Open Door Mission usually gets between 20-75 people eating breakfast
  • Ross passed out Rotary magnets for all of us
  • Rich had some left over raffle prizes from the Garlic Festival
  • Dictionary Project – all books have been stamped; we will keep the same assignments as last year and you can start calling to schedule the distribution

Honorable David Corretore – Webster Town Justice
  • He blames Rotary for being a judge as his grandfather John Ryan was a life long Rotarian and attended every meeting for 40 years
  • He has been a town judge for 29 years after Judge Van Ingen retired; Judge Van Ingen encouraged him to run for the position
  • He has married 1,065 couples and presided over 75,000+ cases
  • Anything that happens in town starts with town court but felonies end in county court
  • Preliminary hearings take place within 6 days of arrest
  • Drug use is a big culprit as to why crimes are committed and heroin use in particular today; a pack of cigarettes is more than a pack of heroin
  • Court is now in the old library building; town board will be moving into that building as well; all of the furniture came from NYS Hall of Justice
  • The best day to attend to court as a visitor is Wednesday; 8-2 or 12-6:30
  • David’s counterpart is Judge Thomas DiSalvo
