Vicky came and presented to the club the ticket packages for us to try and sell for the Danielle Downey Credit Union Classic.  The players in the classic are aspiring LPGA players.  This is an effort us to sell the golf ticket packages and the proceeds from ticket sales will go to Camp Haccamo.  She also provided 2 documents that outlined the costs of the packages and how to create unique posters, etc.  The tournament runs 7/11-7/17 at Brook-Lea Country Club.  If you have any questions, you can email Vicky at vferren@sagerutty.com.

 

Ron met Kirstyn through his work with Miracle Field.  The National Beep Baseball Association (http://www.nbba.org) held their World Series in Rochester last year and this year it will be held in Ames, IA.  The Rochester team name is Rochester Pioneers.  Kirstyn grew up in Rochester, NH and moved to Rochester, NY 20 years ago when she met her husband.  At the age of 8, she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that slowly deteriorated her eyesight.  She completely lost her eyesight 5 years ago.  She has 2 sons, 16 and 13.  Growing up, Kirstyn resisted help from the blind community, as she didn’t want to be associated with blind people at first.  On the beep baseball team, everyone is welcome no matter what athletic capabilities you have.  They are always looking for new players and new volunteers to help with the team.

Each batter takes 4 swings and the pitcher calls out, “Get ready ball.”  The ball makes a loud sound as it travels toward home plate.  There are 6 players in the field and the object it to get to either 1^st or 3^rd base before the fielders find the ball.  1^st and 3^rd base are 100 feet away from home plate.  All hitters wear blindfolds.  The game lasts 6 innings and each inning concludes once 3 outs are reached.  Practices run at least 3 hours and Monday 6/6 the Pioneers will be playing a game at Frontier Field before the Red Wings game at 5:30.  They use aluminum bats that weigh between 34 and 38 ounces.  The outfield fence is 175 feet from home plate.  Teams are coed and the NBBA is trying to get more women involved in the sport.  NBBA has been featured on ESPN and CBS Sunday Morning

 

The charities dinner was a success raising $9,429.04 in profits.  Any constructive criticism and feedback is welcomed.  The theme next year needs to be disseminated earlier.  We need to get a better head count on those attending dinner next year.  We need to develop a committee to work on this earlier in the year, 6 months in advance.  Herb proposes 5/19/2017 for next year’s dinner

 

The returning troops welcome party will be 6/11 at noon at the American Legion.  A chicken BBQ will be served.  We are encouraging people to line the route to waive American flags to welcome the troops home.  The route starts at Crown Electric.  The troops will have 28 adult, 2 children, and 1 service dog.  We would like to do a 50/50 at the party.  50% goes to the winner and 50% goes to the troops as they are headed to Niagara Falls.  Set up will be at 11am.  All silverware and paper products have been purchased.  Article has been sent to the Webster newspapers and Rich has sent out invitations as well

 

Please email Robyn if you intend to attend the dinner after the golf tournament.  Dinner is at 6 at Eagle Vale.  If you only intend to attend the dinner, the cost is $35.  Additionally, please bring in any bottles of wine to donate to the gift prizes for the event.  Robyn got a great deal on insulated lunch bags and those will be distributed as well.  There are currently 52 registered golfers.  Volunteers are needed the day of the event.  We are looking for a volunteer to help make Jell-O shots!
